Market like it’s 1776

July 6, 2014

I hope your 4th of July celebrations were filled with much love, laughter and rejuvenation. If you’re an international coach, I hope a deeper sense of freedom was felt in your soul as well.

While I was hanging out in the north woods with my family last week, making friends with LOTS of mosquitoes and enjoying life unplugged – I wondered what it would have been like to be an entrepreneur marketing back in 1776.

Think about it.

No computers.
No iPads.
No social media.
No podcasts.
No television.
No smart phone.
No phones! (First phone conversation was in 1876).
No advertising agencies. (First one in America started in 1841).
No billboards.
Etc….

As much as it might seem a bigger feat to promote and grow a business then, it actually seems refreshingly simple and straightforward.

1. Socialize in person. Network. Give talks. Talk about what you do to everyone you know. One-on-one and in groups.

2. Connect with referral partners, get creative with cross-collaborations, build sustainable and long-lasting relationships. Get personal.

3. Share client success stories and have clients share their stories with everyone they know (possibly offer incentives).

Your coaching business doesn’t have to be complicated.

Keep it simple sensitive soul.

Simple is where you excel.

P.S. Mercury is finally out of retrograde so enjoy the extra boost of energy and clarity with your business decisions!
