7 Symptoms Your Niche Is The True Cause Of Your Business Problems

September 9, 2012

Photo: Me and DesmondLast weekend I celebrated my son, Desmond’s, first birthday. Where does the time go? I’ve planned enough events in my life to know that a theme would help make the party more fun.

So the real question became, which theme to pick?

Since my husband and I lived abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland, for three years and both love traveling – I decided a World Traveler theme, vintage-style, would be pretty awesome.

With the theme sorted, all future party decisions became a synch. From vintage suitcases and map-themed decorations to international finger foods and passport party favors for the kids. It was detailed, flowed well and made sense.

Picking a party theme is a lot like selecting your niche market. Once you identify a clear niche, decisions and direction within and about your coaching practice become simple.

Let’s explore if you have any of these niche-related business symptoms:

  1. You don’t know where your clients are hanging out online, offline or how to reach them.
  2. You get tongue-tied trying to explain what you do.
  3. You aren’t sure what to write about in your blog / ezine so your communication is not cohesive or consistent.
  4. Your list does not buy from you or take you up on free breakthrough session offers.
  5. You aren’t sure how to stand out in the health and wellness industry.
  6. You have no idea what include in your programs and packages.
  7. You’re working long hours and investing a lot of energy with very few clients and hardly any money.

If you have four or more of the above symptoms then your niche may be to blame. So the real question becomes, what can you do about it?

The key to healing your niche-related business symptoms is to get brutally honest with yourself.

I challenge you this week to begin that journey by answering the following questions:

  1. Is this the right time for me to make a decision about my niche? If no, why not and when will be the right time? If yes, then who do I really want to serve and why?
  2. What am I afraid will happen if I choose a niche? Would these results be any different from the business results I’m getting now?
  3. Do you believe in your heart and soul that you have found a solid niche? If so, then I dare you to dive deep into serving your niche for the next 3 months and report back. Don’t stand in your own way. Instead, look for ways to stand OUT!
